Police in Bungoma County have arrested a man after his three-year-old son died from injuries sustained in a stabbing incident at the family’s home in Nalondo Market.
According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday after relatives informed authorities that the child had succumbed to injuries sustained the previous night.
Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, the suspect was questioning his children over the disappearance of KSh1,000 while holding a knife.
Police say the knife fatally injured the three-year-old boy, who was lying on a bed at the time.
The child was rushed to Nalondo Model Health Centre, where he was admitted in critical condition before dying at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Crime scene investigators recovered a blood-stained knife believed to have been used during the incident. Police also noted that the child had sustained a deep cut to the buttocks and bruises on his back.
The body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue with investigations.
While police have described the stabbing as accidental based on preliminary findings, they said the case is currently being investigated as a murder pending the outcome of the investigations.
