Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed as the Senate Deputy Minority Whip and replaced by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch following changes in the Azimio coalition’s Senate leadership.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the leadership changes during Thursday afternoon’s plenary sitting after receiving official communication from the Minority leadership.
“By a letter dated 16th July 2026, I received correspondence from the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Stewart Madzayo, regarding the removal of Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Deputy Senate Minority Whip and the election of Senator Eddy Gicheru Oketch to replace him,” Speaker Kingi told the House.
Sifuna congratulates successor
Moments after the announcement, Sifuna accepted the leadership change and expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the support they had accorded him during his tenure.
“I thank the leadership and members for the cooperation they have given me during my time as the Deputy Senate Minority Whip. I congratulate my young brother, Senator Eddy Oketch, on his new role,” Sifuna said.
The leadership change takes immediate effect, with Senator Eddy Oketch assuming the position of Deputy Senate Minority Whip.
Oketch now joins the Senate Minority leadership team as Azimio continues to reorganise its leadership in the House.
