Detectives have launched a manhunt for a taxi driver accused of fatally stabbing a 30-year-old man during a suspected road rage incident near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Friday.

The victim, identified as Kennedy Ng’eno, died after sustaining stab wounds during a confrontation that police believe was triggered by a minor traffic accident. Another person was also injured in the incident.

According to Ng’eno’s family, he had travelled to Nairobi from Roret in Kericho County. He first visited his cousin’s home in Uthiru before meeting friends for drinks. The group later set off for Pipeline in separate vehicles when the altercation occurred.

Ng’eno’s cousin, Leonard Cheruiyot, said the suspect allegedly rammed their vehicle from behind, forcing them to stop by the roadside. He claimed the taxi driver became aggressive during the confrontation and damaged their vehicle’s windscreen.

Witnesses said the argument escalated before the driver allegedly retrieved a knife from his vehicle and stabbed Ng’eno multiple times. A video circulating on social media is said to capture moments of the confrontation before the fatal attack.

The suspect, who was driving a vehicle bearing registration number KDD 428B, fled the scene immediately after the stabbing.

Ng’eno’s family has since identified his body at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary and is appealing to authorities to arrest the suspect without delay.

Makadara OCPD Judith Njongesa confirmed that detectives have obtained the suspect’s registration details from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), describing the information as a major breakthrough in efforts to trace and apprehend the driver.

Investigations into the fatal stabbing are ongoing.
