Regional low-cost carrier Jambojet has officially resumed daily flights between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi and Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, reopening the route with its first flight on Friday.
The revived service offers daily flights from KSh22,950 (USD170) one-way, providing travellers with a 65-minute connection between Kenya and Uganda.
The route is expected to benefit business travellers, traders, tourists and people visiting family and friends while strengthening connectivity between the two East African markets.
Jambojet Returns to Entebbe
Jambojet first launched the Nairobi-Entebbe route in 2018 and operated the service for nearly two years.
The airline said its return comes with a stronger network, an expanded fleet and increased operational capacity, allowing it to serve the growing movement of people and businesses between Kenya and Uganda.
Speaking during the flag-off event, Jambojet CEO and Managing Director Karanja Ndegwa said the airline was returning to Entebbe with experience gained during its first operation on the route.
“We are returning to Entebbe with the experience we gained from our first chapter on the route, a densified network and a clear ambition to make regional travel more accessible and reliable. We are therefore bringing our low-cost proposition together with direct, reliable and on-time connectivity.”
The route will operate daily initially, with Jambojet planning to increase frequencies depending on demand.
Travellers to Access Wider Kenyan Network
The Entebbe service will also connect Ugandan travellers to Jambojet’s wider Kenyan network, including destinations such as Mombasa, Diani, Malindi and Lamu.
Kenyan travellers, meanwhile, will have direct access to Uganda for business, tourism and visiting friends and relatives.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei welcomed the return of the service, saying improved air connectivity would support tourism growth and make destinations in the region more accessible.
“This Entebbe–Nairobi service will make it easier for visitors to combine experiences across our two countries. A traveller can enjoy Uganda’s wildlife, culture and natural beauty, then connect conveniently to Kenya’s savannahs, mountains, cities and coast,” she said.
“Visitors arriving in Kenya will likewise have a more accessible gateway to Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region. Jambojet’s daily service will give travellers greater choice and flexibility, enhance convenience and capacity, and create an opportunity to grow this market further.”
Jambojet Eyes Wider East African Connectivity
Jambojet Board Director Patricia Ithau said the return to Uganda reflects the airline’s evolution and its ambition to expand its role in connecting East Africa.
“When Jambojet started operations, our role was fundamentally about making air travel more accessible within Kenya. Today, having carried more than 10 million passengers and built a strong domestic network, our ambition is expanding. We want to connect more people, more markets, and more opportunities across East Africa.”
She added:
“Regional growth is not simply about adding routes. It is about building a network that responds to genuine demand and creates a sustainable value for the markets we serve. The return to Entebbe is one step in that journey.”
Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika said the expanded connectivity supports Kenya’s ambition to strengthen its position as a regional aviation hub.
“Today, we are not simply celebrating a new flight schedule. We are celebrating the opening of another gateway through which people can travel, businesses can thrive, investors can explore opportunities, tourists can discover our region, and communities can strengthen their links with the wider East African market and beyond. I commend the Jambo Jet team for this important investment in connectivity.”
Jambojet Expands Fleet and Passenger Base
The Nairobi-Entebbe route is expected to increase movement between Kenya and Uganda across business, tourism, trade and visits to family and friends.
Jambojet said it will work with travel agents, corporate customers, tourism organisations and other partners in the two markets to develop the route and explore opportunities for further regional connectivity.
The Entebbe launch comes as the airline continues to expand its operations. Jambojet grew its active fleet to 11 aircraft in April 2026 and welcomed its 10 millionth passenger in June 2026.
The airline also recorded an on-time performance of 86.45% in July 2026 and held an estimated 57% share of Kenya’s domestic aviation market by the same month.
