During a visit to the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, President William Ruto raised a question about the sequence of speakers after he was invited to speak by US Ambassador Meg Whitman.
Whitman had initially been invited to the podium by the moderator to discuss the Kenya-US partnership. After her speech, she introduced President Ruto, prompting the delegates to stand and applaud.
However, President Ruto, noticing a potential protocol oversight as others in his entourage had not yet spoken, asked, “Did we jump the queue?” This led the moderator to issue an apology, explaining the day’s schedule had been long.
The moderator then invited Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development, to speak before President Ruto.
CS Miano delivered her remarks and subsequently invited President Ruto to the podium. This ensured the correct protocol was followed, allowing all intended speakers to address the audience in the proper sequence.
