During his visit to the Tyler Perry studios, President William Ruto publicly apologized to his daughter for refusing her request to study film eight years ago.
He shared this revelation after touring the studios, where he realized the significance and potential of the film industry, something he did not understand at the time.
Ruto recounted that his daughter reminded him of her past request as they toured the studios, highlighting the value and opportunities within the film industry. The president acknowledged his mistake and expressed regret for not supporting her passion back then.
“I now understand about 8 years ago, my daughter, and she’s around, asked me ‘you know I want to film’. I looked at her, what did you say? I must apologize to her today. She was right and I was wrong. Because today, while we were going around, she told me do you see what I told you? And it’s completely different,” Ruto said.
During his four-day visit to the United States, which included a state visit, President Ruto met with various stakeholders in the film industry to discuss potential partnerships and ways to grow the local film industry in Kenya. At the Tyler Perry studios, he and his delegation were welcomed by American TV host Steve Harvey. Since his arrival in the US, President Ruto has engaged with over ten different organizations and corporations, as well as with Kenyans living in America.
