Police in Murang’a have launched a manhunt for an assistant chief who allegedly defiled a 14-year-old girl.
According to the police, the chief is said to have defiled his victim inside her aunt’s kitchen.
“My aunt had invited me for December holidays since my mum is ailing…it was in the kitchen at around 11 pm that the chief, who is a neighbour, defiled me,” the minor said in a her statement to the police.
Interestingly, the family is hesitant to follow through the matter and want to settle outside the legal system which is making it hard for the police to pursue justice for the victim.
“It was hectic getting the claims in the right perspective because the girl’s family was hesitant to report the matter,” Muranga County Commisioner told sauce.co.ke.
The commissioner further assured that authorities were searching for the suspect. He also said he had ordered the deputy county commissioner to launch investigations into the matter.
“He is a wanted man. There is a police report accusing him of the offence and the victim has aptly described him, giving us enough grounds to treat him as a suspect,” Ngumo said.
“I received the report suggesting there were enough grounds to treat the matter as criminal and ordered the administrator to be apprehended. We are after him,” he added.
