A truck carrying sand and dozens of passengers was swept away by floods at the Muatine River in Sultan Hamud, Kilome Sub County, heading towards the Ngoto area in Makueni County.

The truck was attempting to cross the flooded Muatine river. Confident that the lorry would make it across the fast torrents, the driver who was carrying sand decided to add human cargo.

“Some of them were rescued while others are feared dead,” stated eyewitnesses.

In a video obtainedmaking rounds on social media, the truck driver was seen crossing the road with assistance from two individuals, one on each side, guiding him along the route.

However, as the vehicle approached the midpoint of the road, it appeared to succumb to the force of the floodwaters, ultimately being swept into the river.

From the video, dozens are seen being swept by the water downstream.

One man was lucky as he escaped death by grabbing branches from a tree and climbing to safety.

“About 20 people and some children had boarded the lorry,” witnesses confirmed.
