Police in Nairobi are investigating the circumstances that enabled a handcuffed suspect to escape from a hospital bed in Nairobi.
Joseph Mungai Njoki, 19 who was remanded at the Industrial Area Prison was taken to Mbagathi hospital after contracting cholera. He had been placed in an isolation ward at the hospital under the guard of three prison officers.
The suspect was discovered missing on Monday night at about 9 pm.
The officers who were guarding him have told police that the suspect who was facing stealing charges had been handcuffed against his bed but it is not clear how he managed to leave the cuffs there and escaped.
Police have since been alerted to help in searching for the suspect and take necessary action
