DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has confirmed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will use the United Democratic Party (UDP) as his political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamalwa said the decision follows the collapse of plans to rebrand UDP as the Ukombozi People’s Party after a dispute emerged over the use of the Ukombozi name.
Speaking on Sulwe FM on Friday, Wamalwa dismissed reports of divisions within the opposition, insisting that leaders remained focused on building a united political front ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The opposition is united and there is no war among us,” Wamalwa said.
He explained that UDP remained available to Sifuna despite the failed rebranding attempt.
“The UDP will be used, but not Ukombozi. There was some confusion after Hon. Natembeya wanted to rebrand UDP to Ukombozi Party, only to realise that the name Ukombozi had already been reserved by Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka since last year,” he said.
The disagreement emerged after the Azimio la Umoja coalition announced plans to rebrand as The Ukombozi Alliance, with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka unveiling the new name on September 21.
The latest development places UDP at the centre of preparations for the 2027 political contest, with Sifuna increasingly being positioned within opposition efforts to build a political alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
