Margarete Kiiru, wife to Tirus Maina, the man who drowned in a dam in Juja together with his girlfriend was conspicuously left out of the eulogy of her husband.
Tirus, 39 was buried yesterday at his ancestral home at Gumba village in Mukurwe-ini constituency, Nyeri County in a ceremony that was as weird as how he met his death.
The ceremony was conducted hurriedly without speeches or photography. None of the dozens of his friends who drove from Nairobi were allowed to address the mourners despite the fact that Tirus was a well established businessman.
Additionally, the ceremony was enveloped with tension as rumours went around that the deceased had two wives who were all present. Interestingly, none of the wives nor the children was introduced or allowed to address those present.
What was the most shocking thing about the funeral though was the brief eulogy published about the deceased. It was three paragraphs long, with just two pictures and no mention of the deceased’s wife or children.
Up until yesterday the whole country knew that Margarete Kiiru was Tiru’s Maina’s only wife. Infact Margarete had even appealed to Kenyans to help in identifying the woman who drowned together with her husband.
Immediately after the incident, Margarete claimed she never suspected her husband was engaging in extra marital affairs outside marriage.
At the burial yesterday, there were undertones that Fridah Wamuyu, the 22-year-old woman who drowned with Maina was his new catch bringing the total number of women in his equation to three.
This is perhaps why his family decided to avoid mentioning his official wife in the eulogy.
