The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has decided to release former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi after holding him for over six hours.
Sources have told us the the former CS is most likely being given a cautionary order and a date to appear in court.
The decision has been made after opposition leader Raila Odinga almost caused a fracas at the DCI headquarter’s gate.
Raila has since left Kiambu road after being assured that Matiangi will not spend the night behind bars. Dr Matiangi will however be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information, his lawyers have said.
A charge sheet which we have seen shows that the ex-CS will be charged with two counts.
