On Thursday evening in Migori County, a shocking incident unfolded at Isebania Police Station when armed individuals stormed the premises, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals.
According to a police report detailing the events that occurred at around 6:30 PM, a group of unruly individuals arrived at the police station in a pickup truck.
They were escorting the body of a man being transported by the police from St. Akidiva Mindira Mabera Hospital mortuary.
Upon their arrival, the assailants, who had concealed machetes and stones in the pickup, launched a violent attack on the station.
They hurled stones, smashing the windows of various offices, including the station’s armoury and the office of the Officer in Charge (OCS).
The mob also attempted to break open the cell gates, demanding the release of all detainees.
As the situation escalated, the police were left with no choice but to respond with live ammunition.
The attackers had already breached the report office and the armoury, and were now headed towards the cells, seemingly intent on freeing the incarcerated individuals.
Tragically, this confrontation resulted in the deaths of four unidentified assailants, as stated in the police report.
The authorities in Migori believe that this assault was premeditated, and they have identified three suspects linked to the incident: Peter Hamisi Chacha, John Musa, and Nsato, who was reportedly driving the pickup filled with stones.
To disperse the defiant mob from the police station, the officers had to resort to using tear gas and firing blanks.
During the chaos, one police officer, who was guarding the armoury, sustained injuries to the right eye and other parts of the body after being assaulted by the mob.
The bodies of the four suspects who were shot at the station were later transferred to St. Akidiva Mindira Mabera Hospital mortuary.
