The appointment of Joseph Siror as the new Kenya Power Managing Director this week has caused quite a stir in Kenya because of his perceived closeness to President William Ruto. Yet beneath all this talk, Siror is an accomplished engineer and manager with experience spanning decades.

So who exactly is Dr Siror?

He has had an illustrious career in the energy sector, spanning over 30 years, and is widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most experienced energy professionals.

Siror has held various senior positions in the energy sector, including serving as the CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) and the Chief Manager in charge of Power Planning and Design at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).

Dr. (Eng.) Siror holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University (China) majoring in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Nairobi.

He previously worked as a Director of Science, Technology Innovation and Communication at the National Economic and Social Council (NESC). He also served as a Senior Assistant Commissioner at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and worked at Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation as well as a Senior Systems Analyst at Firestone East Africa Limited.

He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and a Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineers in Kenya (IEK)

“Dr. Siror is highly qualified and well respected in his field and the Board looks forward to working with him in meeting the company’s corporate goals. The Board takes this opportunity to congratulate him on his appointment,” said Kenya Power while announcing Dr Siror’s appointment.

“His time in the public sector as well as his training and knowledge will help provide Kenya Power with a fresh start and build on the past success to deliver an exciting new strategic direction for the Company.”
