Gundogan, who made 304 appearances for City and captained the team to a Treble last season, referred to his time at the club as the “greatest experience” of his career.

In an emotional message, he expressed his gratitude for being part of the City family and stated that he would always carry the club in his heart. Gundogan’s decision to leave City marks the end of a successful tenure in which he won 14 major honors, including five Premier League titles.

Gundogan’s move to Barcelona provides him with a new challenge and environment after his time in Manchester.

As Guardiola’s first signing for City, Gundogan played a pivotal role in the team’s transformation into a dominant force in English football. He has proven to be a player for big occasions. This is exemplified by his brace on the final day of the 2021-22 season that secured the Premier League title for City.

Additionally, his two goals in the FA Cup final against Manchester United, including the fastest final goal in the competition’s history, helped City clinch the trophy.

Txiki Begiristain, the director of football at Manchester City, paid tribute to Gundogan, acknowledging his significant contributions to the club’s recent successes. Begiristain praised Gundogan’s intelligence, leadership, and commitment, both on and off the field, highlighting his inspirational impact on everyone at the club.

“Gundogan has left a lasting legacy at Manchester City. The entire club wishes him well in his future endeavors,” states Begiristain.

Kovacic vows to help City continue dominance after sealing Blues exit

In other news, Mateo Kovacic has expressed his eagerness to help Manchester City achieve further success. This is after the player’s move from Chelsea.

Kovacic’s transfer marks the end of his five-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Upon completing the switch, the Croatian praised City, stating that they are the best team in the world. Kovacic attributed this to the massive trophy haul under Pep Guardiola. He described joining City as a dream for any footballer.

The 29-year old further expressed his excitement to continue learning and developing under Guardiola’s management.

“I still have plenty of learning and developing to do. I know under Pep’s management I can become a better player”.

“Anyone who has watched this team under Pep knows how good they are. For me, they are the best in the world. The trophies they have won are clear for all to see. But they are also the best footballing side out there. To be joining this squad really is a dream for any footballer”.

Kovacic is planning to rest for a few weeks before returning to Manchester to prepare for the new season. He promised to contribute to the club’s continued success and trophy wins.

Previously on loan from Real Madrid, Kovacic joined Chelsea permanently in 2019. During his time at Chelsea, he played 221 games, scored six goals, and won four trophies, including the Champions League.

Kovacic will now be part of City’s formidable midfield setup under the guidance of Guardiola. He is joining a squad that recently secured a Treble. His move from Chelsea is part of the club’s ongoing squad rebuild under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

In addition to Kovacic, other notable Chelsea players who have recently left Stamford Bridge include N’Golo Kante, who joined Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, and Kalidou Koulibaly, who moved to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
