A maddening traffic gridlock, a muddy venue, and a one-hour performance in what could only be described as one of the most expensive shows to be organised in Nairobi.

That was the highlight of the highly anticipated Stanbic Yetu Festival, which took place at the iconic Uhuru Gardens and was to set the stage for an extraordinary experience.

Top of the artists in attendance was Kenyan band Sauti Sol and R&B icon Boyz II Men.

At 4pm, the gates to the venue opened with thousands of fans who had booked for the sold-out event started streaming in.

Unlike many other events where the night DJs start entertaining revelers until 10 pm, the event started at around 7:30 pm when Sauti Sol, took the stage.

All dressed in black outfits and with infectious energy and gratitude, the band expressed their appreciation to the crowd of enthusiastic Kenyan fans who were shouting their names at the top of their voices.

The Boyz II Men trio is composed of baritone Nathan Morris, Tenors Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman took over some minutes to 9 pm, and by 10 pm they walked off the stage, prompting an enthusiastic crowd to request for more.

Despite the rain and cold weather, Kenyans who turned up to experience the most awaited festival said that it was not what they had expected considering the ticket prices which went for as high as Sh30,000.

While the concert had been billed as Nairobi’s most anticipated concert this year, at the end of the night, some fans were left wondering if was worth it.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, Kenyans shared a range of reactions towards the show, with the majority claiming that it was a raw deal.
