Peter Drury is set to replace Martin Tyler as Sky Sports’ main commentator, after Tyler, 77, stepped down from his role on Saturday.
Drury currently commentates for the US-based network NBC Sports, who are owned by the same parent company as Sky. According to the Daily Mail, an announcement is imminent, and Drury will focus on one game each week.
The 55-year-old started off his career with local radio in Leeds, but he is best known for his time at BT Sport in England. And Premier League fans are overjoyed with the news, with many calling for Drury after Tyler’s announcement.
“Peter Drury to Sky Sports?!!! Am I dreaming,” one fan questioned. And a second added: “Massively deserved for Drury. Should’ve been the main man at Sky years ago!”
“Possibly the best move Sky have made in all their years getting Peter Drury in. Super Sundays should be epic,” a third said. And another added: “Peter Drury signing for Sky is the best signing of the season!”
“Sky’s viewing figures will see a stark rise. Peter Drury has an excellent voice. For me the best in the football commentary sphere,” a fifth predicted. While another tweeted: “Sensational news. Peter is fantastic. Congratulations to him!”
