Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year contract. The English international’s transfer cost over 100 million euros ($108 million).
Bellingham’s arrival is part of Real Madrid’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate their midfield. He joins young French players Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in the team, as the club looks to gradually replace veteran midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
“Our club has signed one of the most talented players in world football, who joins us from Borussia Dortmund after being recognized as the best player in the Bundesliga during the 2022-23 season,” Madrid stated.
“In addition, he is just 19 years old and is already a regular starter for the England national team.”
Jude Bellingham impressed while representing England at the World Cup last year, although the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals by the runners-up, France.
The midfielder, who will celebrate his 20th birthday later this month, joined Dortmund from Birmingham in 2020 for a transfer fee of 25 million euros. He made 132 appearances for the club and helped them win the German Cup in 2021.
Bellingham expressed his gratitude to everyone at Dortmund and the fans for their support over the past three years, stating on the club’s website, “It was an honor to wear your shirt on numerous occasions, both in important and ordinary moments. While I am excited for my next journey, I will never forget the path that led me here. Once a Borussian, always a Borussian.”
