A 43 year-old Catholic priest died after he fell unconscious at a hotel in Muranga County in mysterious circumstances.

Father Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku of Ruai Parish checked into Monalisa Hotel in the company Ruth Ndubi Karanja, 32 who police believe was his girlfriend on July 8.

The woman also happens to be the priest’s colleague at the Ruai parish. The two had made similar trips before to the hotel.

On Sunday morning however at around 8am, the priest’s girlfriend rushed to the reception and notified the hotel management that his boyfriend was complaining of dizziness and sliding out of consciousness.

She asked for help to take him to hospital.
Using the priest’s vehicle, a black Toyota Harrier registration number KCM 853T, the girlfriend in company of two staff from the hotel rushed him to Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Murang’a county commander Kainga Mathiu said police were notified and responded and found the body in the back seat of the car half covered with the hotel bedsheets.

Police moved the body to Mater hospital mortuary in Nairobi pending autopsy and further police action,” said the county police boss.
