Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure has ordered the police to allow protestors to exercise their right to protest without subjecting them to violence.
The CS who was speaking at a church service has said it is the job of the police to escort protestors as so long as they are not armed or breaking the law.
This is as it emerged that investigations are underway to establish ordered the group of officers who attacked Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s motorcade on Friday.
During the melee, several vehicles on the opposition leader’s convoy including his vehicle got their rear windows shattered.
The Azimio leaders were forced to scamper for safety and head to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) centre where the damage on the vehicles was inspected in front of the press.
Addressing journalists, Odinga claimed his vehicle was hit by a live bullet fired by police whom he claim were aiming for his life.
It has now emerged that no official order had been given through the police command for Raila’s motorcade to be attacked. The officers who did it were apparently acting on ordered from an unknown entity.
“There are a few of us who are using excessive force. I will not allow it,” said a furious Kindiki.
“If protestors are not armed, are not assaulting anyone or breaking into businesses let them do their thing. In the evening they will go home.”
“Infact it is the job of the police to escort them,” said the CS.
The death toll from Fridays protests had by last evening risen to two after one of the four victims admitted to Jaramogi Odinga Oginga hospital succumbed to his injuries.
Azimio has called for another round of protests next Wednesday
