Opposition chief Raila Odinga was relieved to hear that his bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, had been set free from custody.
In a tweet Saturday, Philip Etale, the ODM communications director said Ogeta was released “a few minutes before 1 am”.
“He was driven while blindfolded until he was left in the middle of the road in Ruai, heading towards Kangundo.”
During his detention, Ogeta’s car was vandalized, and while he remains shaken and distressed, he is grateful to be alive.
The release came after the High Court’s intervention on Friday.
Justice L.N Mugambi responded to an urgent suit filed by Ogeta’s brother, Christopher Onyango Ogettah.
The court ordered the police to produce Ogeta before any court in the country for an inquiry into his detention.
According to reports, Ogeta had been ambushed by unidentified individuals believed to be police officers while on his way to work from home on Wednesday morning. He was forcibly stopped, abducted, and locked in the trunk of his own car.
Raila Odinga and Ogeta’s family had been vocal in demanding his release throughout the ordeal.
Ogeta’s apprehension was part of a series of arrests that occurred during the three-day anti-government protests, which concluded on Friday. Many of those detained were individuals and leaders associated with the opposition chief, Raila Odinga.
