The dire state of government residences occupied by police personnel has sparked public outcry, with some of these structures having remained unrepaired since the colonial era.
Nevertheless, a glimmer of hope shines for administration police officers residing in government quarters, as the government has reconfirmed its dedication to enhancing the living conditions of security personnel in West Pokot County.
The aim is to transform their residences into more habitable environments.
Benson Marangu, the Senior Superintendent and Commander of West Pokot Administration Police, conveyed that the government’s commitment to providing security personnel with improved housing underscores their essential role in upholding law and order.
Speaking to KNA during an inspection of recently renovated police houses at Kapenguria Administration Police Units, Marangu emphasized that plans are underway to revamp other dilapidated structures within the unit.
“Some of these police houses were constructed in the 1950s, and signs of deterioration were becoming evident,” noted the AP commander.
He emphasized that decent housing positively influences police morale, fostering a sense of belonging and thereby enhancing their efficiency.
Marangu urged police officers to uphold their dedication to public service while adhering to the law, as the government consistently has their best interests at heart.
He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean work environment and encouraged those moving into the freshly renovated residences to embrace a culture of tidiness.
The Police Commander commended the government’s allocation of funds to improve security personnel’s living conditions, which he believed would bolster public trust in law enforcement.
Anonymous officers shared their concerns, revealing that their lives had been under constant threat due to the deteriorating state of their housing, which posed a risk of collapse.
Despite submitting numerous complaints to police authorities, their requests for housing renovation went unanswered.
The officers expressed gratitude to the government for responding to their pleas, expressing their intention to comfortably accommodate their families in the newly refurbished residences. This, they believed, would encourage more colleagues to choose police housing, enhancing overall living standards within police units.
