Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, made a bold statement on Thursday, hailing former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the most distinguished head of state in Kenya’s history.
Kaluma expressed his admiration for the significant impact of infrastructure projects initiated by the former president during the recently concluded Africa Climate Summit.
The summit, which commenced on Monday and concluded on Wednesday, saw the participation of several African heads of state who jointly endorsed the Nairobi Declaration.
Kaluma, in his remarks, appeared to draw comparisons between Uhuru Kenyatta and his predecessor, the late President Mwai Kibaki, asserting that Kibaki’s contributions paled in comparison.
He even suggested that Kibaki had claimed credit for roads purportedly built by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with whom he co-led a grand coalition government from 2007 to 2013.
In a tweet, Kaluma mused, “Imagine this Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi without the roads President Uhuru Kenyatta built! Uhuru is the greatest President Kenya has ever had! Kibaki only takes credit on roads Baba Raila Odinga built.”
Notably, the three-day climate summit held in Nairobi managed to minimize traffic disruptions, despite the temporary closure of several key city roads throughout the event.
The gathering attracted the participation of at least 17 heads of state and culminated in the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration. Global leaders, intergovernmental organizations, Regional Economic Communities, and United Nations Agencies were among the attendees.
The summit also welcomed representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations, indigenous peoples, local communities, farmer organizations, children, youth, women, and academia.
