A 26-year-old Kenyan citizen was apprehended on Sunday at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, Sri Lanka, while attempting to smuggle in approximately 4 kilograms of cocaine valued at more than Sh136 million (Rs 300 million).
Sri Lankan media reports indicate that the individual, who is also reported to be involved in the car dealership business, travelled from Ethiopia through Qatar before reaching Sri Lanka.
Officers from the Sri Lanka Customs narcotics control unit discovered 180 capsules of cocaine concealed within three metal cookie tins hidden within the suspect’s luggage.
The apprehended individual has been transferred to the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigation as authorities continue to probe the matter.
