Police in Mwala, Machakos County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a hotel room moments after checking in with a woman on Saturday night.
James Maingi, 77, a resident of Lower Yatta in Kitui County was found dead on the bed of the motel in Masii market minutes past 7 pm.
Police say he was naked.
Thirty-two-year-old Gladys Maina, with whom Maingi had checked in, was also found in the room.
“The deceased’s bag was found to have 25 tablets of men’s booster and four empty sachets of the tablets that he is believed to have taken,” said the police.
Cases of deaths occurring in hotel rooms have been on the rise in the last few years. Several of these incidents are linked to victims excessively consuming sex-enhancement drugs.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) pills are safe for healthy hearts. However, all men with cardiovascular disease should take special precautions. Some men should not use them under any circumstances.
The problem is the effect of ED pills on arteries.
All arteries, not just those in the penis, generate nitric oxide, so any artery can widen in response to Viagra, or other ED pills. This causes blood pressure to drop temporarily by 5-8 mmHg, even in healthy men.
In 2020, the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS) cautioned men to only use the boosters under a prescription. The prescription should only be given after a thorough review of their medical history, as well as an assessment of the associated risks and benefits.
The dead man’s body was taken to Machakos Funeral Home awaiting post-mortem, while the lady was booked for further interrogation by the police.
