The primary suspect in the murder case of Eric Maigo, the Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital, has been apprehended. This suspect, believed to be a minor, was taken into custody on Tuesday by investigators affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). She had been evading capture since the incident.
Mr. Maigo was discovered deceased in his residence on September 15, 2023, with a post-mortem examination indicating that he had sustained 25 stab wounds.
According to Mr. Adamson Bungei, the Nairobi County police chief, “She was arrested and initially held at Muthaiga Police Station. Later today (Wednesday), she will be transferred to Kilimani Police Station.”
Law enforcement authorities estimate that the girl is likely between the ages of 15 and 17.
CCTV footage captured her attempting to flee from the victim’s residence in Woodley estate, where she scaled the perimeter wall.
Detectives on her trail traced her to a residence in Bombolulu, Kibra sub-county, where they discovered clothing stained with blood that she had worn on the day of Mr. Maigo’s murder.
Initially, the police had detained Cynthia Lusega Andalo as a suspect in the case.
Another woman, who had also been accused of involvement in the murder, was apprehended in Kibera the previous week. She was presented before the Milimani Law Courts on Monday but was subsequently released. Detectives failed to produce any evidence linking her to the crime during the court proceedings.
Before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi, the DCI officers from the crime unit and forensic analysis department stated that there was no evidence from the crime scene that connected the suspect to the murder. Consequently, the judge ruled that there was no basis for her continued detention and ordered her release.
