Three women, identified as Lilian Achieng Owino, Lavender Akoth Aduke, and Millicent Akinyi Awando, have been handed nine-year prison sentences for their involvement in a fraud case that saw Kisumu’s Gulf Lab Chemical Company lose Ksh. 16,153,738.
These individuals were previously employed by the company.
Appearing before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo, they faced charges related to theft by a servant, conspiracy to commit fraud, and forging documents without authorization. The court found them guilty after a thorough presentation of evidence by the prosecution team, which included testimonies from nine witnesses.
In her ruling, Magistrate Omollo issued the following sentences:
- For the first count (theft by servant), each of the three accused persons will serve 5 years in prison, in addition to a fine of Ksh. 5,384,379.43.
- For the second count (conspiracy to commit fraud), they were fined Ksh. 200,000 each, with a default sentence of 2 years in prison.
- For the third count (forging documents without authorization), each accused person received a fine of Ksh. 2,000,000, with a default sentence of 2 years in prison.
