Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Wednesday, September 20, issued a sarcastic apology to Kenyans for his previous comments in which he criticized Kenyans for lamenting about the rising fuel prices.
In his statement, Kuria took a subtle jab at Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, attributing the need to issue the apology due to criticism from the legislator.
Senator Khalwale had called on President Ruto to remove CS Kuria from his ministerial position, citing his failure to address Kenyan citizens’ concerns and his insensitive comments.
He then continued, saying, “I have since been advised by people like Dr. Boni Khalwale and his master that the statement was incorrect, insensitive, and ARROGANT. I am now made to understand that the price will actually come down. I apologize profusely, as it is human to make errors.”
This apology from CS Kuria followed a public backlash he had faced for dismissing the grievances of Kenyans who were concerned about the high fuel prices, particularly in light of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) revising pump prices.
Previously, Kuria had told those complaining about the high fuel prices to take matters into their own hands by digging wells and drilling for oil.
His earlier comments also included a prediction that petrol prices would reach Ksh 260 by February and a mention of an impending El Nino weather pattern that he believed would last until March, attributing these changes to global and climate-driven factors.
