Detectives based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have seized methamphetamine drugs worth Ksh. 9 million.

The drugs, weighing over one kilogram, were hidden inside bicycle saddles.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), this consignment was destined for Jakarta, Indonesia.

“The drugs, estimated to be worth over Ksh. 9 million, were concealed among other items declared as bicycle accessories in a shipment originating from Moroni, Comoros,” the DCI stated.

Detectives stationed at the airport to address immigration-related crimes and monitor suspicious cargo flagged this particular consignment.

During a verification exercise, they discovered brown packages containing a white crystalline substance concealed within eleven saddles. Subsequent testing confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine.

The detectives have initiated Interpol operations to identify those involved in this illicit trade for arrest and prosecution.

The latest incident comes as the war against the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances has been heightened in Kenya.
