In a significant move aimed at enhancing air travel options, Kenya Airways has announced an expansion of weekly flights to the United States. Starting from Sunday, October 29, 2023, the airline will increase its weekly flights from Nairobi to New York, John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, from four to five.

Additionally, from December 4, 2023, daily flights will now be available on this popular route.

This expansion comes as Kenya Airways commemorates a remarkable milestone of five years. This remarkable feat involves the airline’s 1,700 flights to JFK International Airport where it has covered a total distance of 72,000 kilometers.

“Celebrating five years milestones of 1,700 flights and 72,000 Kilometres to John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport,” the statement read.

“Starting October 29, 2023, we offer you additional flights from four times to five times weekly from Nairobi to New York and daily flights starting December 4, 2023.”

The airline has also been operating direct flights to London since its inception. This has made KQ play a pivotal role as a gateway between Kenya and the United Kingdom, facilitating business travel, leisure trips, trade, and educational endeavors.

Comfortable and efficient travel

The flights between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and JFK International Airport involve a journey lasting approximately 15 hours in the eastbound direction. The return westbound journey is 14 hours.

For this long trip, the airline uses the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft which offers passengers a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

It’s worth noting that Kenya made history in 2018 when Kenya Airways launched its inaugural direct flights to the United States. This groundbreaking achievement also marked Kenya as the first East African country and the eighth in the entire African continent to operate direct flights to the US.

Prior to this, only a select group of African nations, including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Ethiopia, Senegal, and Morocco, had been granted the privilege of offering direct flights to the United States.

Kenya’s entry into this exclusive club further solidified its position as a vital player in international air travel.
