In a thrilling encounter at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mambo Leo, Kisumu, Aldrine Kibet emerged as the hero, scoring the lone goal that secured his Kenya’s place in the semifinals of the CECAFA U18 Championship.
Kibet, who has been on a meteoric rise since his impressive performances at the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) games in August, continued his fine form by netting his second goal in as many matches.
His strike, unleashed from outside the penalty box in the 38th minute, sent the home crowd into a frenzy as it nestled into the right side of the net, breaking the deadlock and ultimately deciding the outcome of the match against Rwanda.
Kenya’s dominance was evident throughout the game, with Kibet’s goal serving as a fitting reward for their persistent efforts.
Kibet’s heroics not only propelled Kenya into the semifinals but also ensured their qualification for the next round despite having one more group match remaining against Somalia.
Pool B of the competition features Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, and Uganda.
