Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria on Thursday, November 02, expressed his readiness to deploy the National Youth Service (NYS) to assist in Haiti.
While addressing a gathering at the launch of NYS Interventions for Agriculture and Food Security in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Kuria emphasized the challenges faced by Kenyan youths due to unemployment.
Kuria stated that his ministry was open to exploring opportunities beyond Kenya’s borders. He revealed that President William Ruto had directed him to prioritize job opportunities for the youth, both at home and abroad.
“Anywhere there are jobs, even if it is in Haiti, I will ensure we take the NYS there,” Kuria stated.
He added that the government’s goal by 2027 is to employ around 40,000 NYS officers to integrate them into the Public Service.
In March of this year, President William Ruto ordered NYS to increase its recruitment from 10,000 to 20,000 Kenyans starting in 2024.
