Ngilu endorses Tim Wanyonyi to unseat Sakaja in 2027

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi’s march to City Hall has received a major boost following his endorsement from former Cabinet Secretary and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

Speaking at St Mark’s ACK Church Westlands, Ngilu said Wanyonyi is ripe to be the president of the country, leave alone being governor.

“Tim Wanyonyi as we know him, the year 2022 he wanted to run for the Governor of Nairobi and he is still ready, willing and able to serve as your governor another time. He could also serve as president of this country because we do know Tim Wanyonyi’s commitment to this country,” she said amidst applaud from the congregants.

She spoke just a few hours after the MP warned Nairobi Governor Jonson Sakaja that his time at City Hall was fast approaching the end.

Wanyonyi, speaking during a Sunday service at Umoja PAG Church, in Embakasi West Constituency, warned Sakaja that he risks being kicked out of office in the next elections should he not deliver his promises to the people of Nairobi.

He said that Sakaja was living on borrowed time as Governor explaining that in 2027, the people of Nairobi will sweep him out of office.

He reminded Sakaja that he won the seat simply because his (Wanyonyi’s) supporters threw their weight behind him after Azimio denied him the chance to carry the coalition’s flag for the gubernatorial seat.

Mr Wanyonyi, having bagged the ODM ticket for City Hall, was the favourite to win the governor’s seat under the Azimio coalition but he was prevailed upon to step down for the unpopular Jubilee candidate Polycarp Igathe.

Igathe, despite support from Wanyonyi and the entire Azimio, was walloped at the ballot by the lesser popular Sakaja as most supporters voted to protest against the decision by Azimio to deny Wanyonyi the ticket.

The Westlands MP lashed out at Sakaja for hiking taxes in the city making life more unbearable for residents.

He accused the governor of being an absentee in his office as he is even not available to elected leaders wondering how ordinary people could reach.

“Today, if you ask where the Governor’s office is, who knows where it is? It’s because he vacated it. Even us MPs, can’t locate him, how will you ordinary people reach him,” he charged.

“It’s my votes that gave him victory, he should always be grateful for that. He knows if we had gone neck-to-neck with him, I would have beaten him very early in the morning,” Mr Wanyonyi said.

He asked Embakasi residents to back his bid in the next elections to be Nairobi governor.

“If you elect me, I will not let you down,” he promised.
