Opposition leader Raila Odinga had to intervene after two politicians,Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma and a Member of the County Assembly (MCA), got into a physical altercation in his presence at the launch of the party’s membership drive in Siaya county.
Raila, who was visibly upset by the incident, expressed his disappointment and warned that political leaders should be focused on serving their constituents rather than engaging in such behavior. He also urged the politicians to wait until 2026 before announcing their candidacies for future elections.
“I was disappointed to see people pushing and shoving each other at an event that is supposed to be about unity and strengthening our party,” Raila said. “We should not allow our personal ambitions to get in the way of our duty to serve the people.”
Raila also took aim at Aduma, accusing him of organizing a political protest against the current Kisumu Governor,Anyang’ Nyong’o.
“Aduma, I never want to hear of such a thing again,” Raila said. “Kisumu County has a Governor, and his name is Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o. He is currently serving his second term, and we should respect that.”
Raila’s intervention helped to calm the situation and allowed the membership drive to continue. He urged ODM members to remain united and focused on the party’s goals.
