Members of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier over the purported theft of a firearm from a Prado driver in Kirinyaga County.

The soldier, who was accompanied by a man and a woman believed to be accomplices, had targeted a driver who had encountered an accident while navigating a slippery road in a Toyota Prado. The Prado had veered off and landed in a ditch.

Nearby residents came to the aid of the stranded driver, a 56-year-old, helping him out of the ditch around 8:30 pm.

However, upon reaching his home, he discovered the firearm, loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, was missing.

In efforts to locate the missing weapon, the driver scoured his vehicle but came up empty-handed. He even retraced his steps and made inquiries but couldn’t find any leads.

“He returned to the scene the same night searching for the firearm until 10 pm but could do little to trace anything in the dark and trampled muddy passage from an ongoing downpour,” the DCI disclosed.

Following the report filed at Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea East, detectives initiated investigations that led to the recovery of the firearm in Juja, Kiambu County.

Subsequently, the DCI team arrested the KDF officer and two others in Windridge-Chai Estate, Juja, Kiambu County. They were then taken to Wang’uru Police Station.

“Investigations are underway to determine how six rounds of ammunition which were missing from the firearm were expended,” stated the DCI.
