A sense of sorrow ha befallen Kapweria village in Narok county, following a tragic incident where a 13-year-old girl fatally attacked her mother with a machete during a dispute over a mobile phone.
The 55-year-old mother succumbed to severe head injuries inflicted by her daughter, who reportedly resorted to violence in response to her mother’s attempt to reclaim the phone used for undisclosed communication.
Transmara East sub-county police boss Boniface Kavoo revealed that neighbors, alerted by the cries from the suspect’s home, discovered the victim in agonizing pain, pleading for assistance.
The motive behind the confrontation stemmed from the mother’s desire to monitor and restrict her daughter’s communication habits.
Describing the situation, Kavoo stated, “It’s a scenario where her mother wanted to repossess the phone her daughter was using to chat with. It seems the deceased was a strict mother, and she wasn’t happy about her girl doing a lot of communication without her knowledge. The suspect used all means to fight her mother back, which ended in a fatality.”
The teenage suspect allegedly attempted to conceal the murder weapon, a panga, by disposing of it in a pit latrine.
However, she later confessed to the crime, citing a desire for more freedom as her motive. The deceased’s body has been transferred to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary, while the suspect is currently in custody at Emurua Dikiir police station.
