A man is currently in police custody in Kipkelion, Kericho County, for allegedly beating his son to death.

The suspect, known as ‘Kakamega’, reportedly assaulted his fourth-year student son from Karatina University for drinking excessively and refusing to return to the university, which had reopened earlier in the month.

Residents of the area recounted that Kakamega returned home to find his son inebriated, leading to an altercation. The man, who had allegedly sold family assets to fund his son’s education, questioned him about why he hadn’t resumed his studies.

In a fit of rage, the father confronted his son, and the situation escalated. Kakamega reportedly used a piece of wood to beat his son severely, causing serious injuries. The man’s wife was not present during the incident, as she was attending a relative’s funeral in Nandi County.

Villagers who heard the distress calls intervened and rescued the injured son from his father’s assault. They rushed him to Fort Ternan sub-county hospital for initial medical attention before transferring him to Kericho County Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, the young man succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The suspect has been arrested and is currently held at Kipkelion Police Station, awaiting arraignment pending the completion of investigations.
