The Nairobi County government has announced a temporary six-month waiver of parking fees for private motorists on Saturdays.
The waiver was announced by Charles Kerich, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, through a gazette notice dated December 1, 2023.
The waiver, effective until the end of June 2024, was granted under the authority of the Nairobi City County Tax Waivers Administration Act, 2013.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (2) (a) of the Nairobi City County Tax Waivers Administration Act, 2013, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning in concurrence with the Governor, Nairobi City County, waives parking fees for all private motorists in Nairobi on Saturdays until 30th June, 2024,” reads the notice.
However, the county government will continue collecting parking fees on the other days of the week.
For instance, in Zone I, such as the CBD, daily parking fees for saloon cars will continue to be Ksh.300, while that of vans and pickups remain at Ksh.500.
Parking fees for lorries/mini-buses weighing up to 5 tonnes will be Ksh.2,000, while rates for lorries above 5 tons remain at Ksh.3,000.
Non-PSV buses will be required to pay Ksh.1,000, while trailer parking fees remain at Ksh.3,500.
