The Lagos High Court has handed down a life sentence to Bishop Feyiropo Daniels for the crime of rape, in addition to a 3-year imprisonment term for sexual assault.
Both sentences are to be served concurrently.
The court also ruled that Daniels’ name be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State.
The judgment which was delivered by Justice Rahman Oshodi on Friday, found the cleric guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a female worshipper.
According to reports, a 23-year-old assistant pastor, in a testimony to the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos, accused Oluwafeyiropo, popularly known as Feyi Daniel, of raping her on two occasions.
Oluwafeyiropo, the founder of iReign Christian Ministry, was remanded in prison custody on April 17, 2023, by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court. At the time, he was facing charges of allegedly raping two church members.
The self-proclaimed ‘man of God’ was later arraigned before Justice Ramon Oshodi on three amended counts related to rape and sexual assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.
During the trial, the assistant pastor recounted her association with the bishop. She mentioned joining the iReign Christian Ministry in May 2018 after attending a church program in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, where the accused ministered.
Over time, she rose to the position of an assistant pastor in the church.
The witness further alleged that Bishop Feyiropo Daniels, whom she regarded as her spiritual father, raped her at his residence in Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos State, on June 21, 2020.
