Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has refuted claims of a reported disagreement between him and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding the succession politics in the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking at a political gathering on Friday, Nyoro dismissed concerns about a division among Kenya Kwanza leaders from the region, asserting that they fully support President William Ruto and his deputy, Gachagua.
“As members of Kenya Kwanza, all of us have given our President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua total and unconditional support as they lead our nation,” Nyoro stated.
“Our work is to support them; we are committed because we have a vision and a plan to take the country’s economy forward because if Kenya succeeds, everyone else succeeds, and that is why we support our leaders,” Nyoro added.
Nyoro further emphasized his dedication to service delivery and the success of the Kenya Kwanza administration. He also expressed contentment behind the country’s top two leaders.
“I want to assure you even as you come to join the President in taking Kenya forward, all of us as Kenya Kwanza leaders, our focus is work, delivery of services, and economic transformation.”
Struggle for control of Mt Kenya politics
In the same vein, Ndindi Nyoro criticized a fellow legislator for publicly displaying rivalry with Gachagua, urging him to respect the country’s second-in-command.
“I want to assure that if you say you’re my friend, you should also be President Ruto’s friend and DP Gachagua’s friend because in Kenya Kwanza, we’re a solid regime, united in service delivery, and focused on economic transformation,” Nyoro affirmed.
Nyoro’s remarks come amidst alleged struggles for control in the Mt. Kenya region, with some MPs endorsing the legislator to succeed Gachagua as President Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 polls.
President Ruto, on Thursday, condemned the succession talks and urged current leaders to focus on fulfilling their promises and commitments to the Kenyan people.
“Let me ask all leaders that we focus our attention on the delivery of the assignment given to us by the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.
“Especially leaders in Kenya Kwanza and UDA, I want to ask them to step down any contestations for whatever positions – present or future – so that we can work,” the president added.
