The laywer representing John Matara, the primary suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, has raised concerns about his client’s safety, alleging that Matara’s life is at risk.
According to Mr. Samuel Ayora, Matara was assaulted by unidentified individuals at the court premises as he was entering the Makadara Law Court.
Ayora went on to contest the application by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to detain Matara for an additional seven days, arguing that being in custody poses a threat to Matara’s life.
He cited a recent incident where Matara was reportedly forced out of the cell by unknown assailants.
Before the court, the DCI acknowledged submitting the investigative file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further guidance. However, the file was returned with instructions on specific areas that needed further investigation.
In light of these developments, the DCI sought additional time to address the pointed areas, aiming to build a robust case against the suspect. This information contradicts the lawyer’s assertion that 21 days would be sufficient for the police to conclude their investigations.
John Matara was apprehended at Mbagathi Hospital, where he had sought medical attention following the brutal murder of socialite Starlet Wahu in an Airbnb in Nairobi.
