At least 28 persons have been confirmed dead after an attack in the town of Lysychansk in the Russian-occupied region of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine. The losses were reported by the region’s Moscow-appointed leader on Sunday, February 04.
In a Telegram statement, Leonid Pasechnik, the head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, conveyed that emergency services successfully rescued 10 individuals from the debris.
Pasechnik further attributed the incident to a Ukrainian attack on a building housing a bakery that occurred on Saturday.
Pasechnik declared Sunday as a day of mourning in the Luhansk People’s Republic to honor the victims of this devastating attack.
As of now, Ukraine’s defense ministry has not provided any official comments on the incident.
Lysychansk, which fell under Russian control in July 2022, marked the culmination of Russian forces taking control of the entire key region of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
Amidst a stalling ground offensive, Ukraine has been intensifying its attacks on both Russia and territories controlled by Russia.
