Residents of Ngaratuko area in Baringo County are still reeling from the shock after a blind primary school headteacher was killed by bandits on Saturday morning.
The teacher, identified as Thomas Kibet, was attacked while on a motorcycle with his wife and child.
The late Kibet is the headteacher at Kagir Primary School.
According to witness reports, the teacher and his family were headed to Kipcherere Secondary School. It is believed deceased’s children are students in this school.
According to the Baringo County Police Commander, Julius Kiragu, the bandits attacked the three on a roadside ambush as they were headed to Kipcherere. The bandits shot the man on the head, killing him on the spot.
His wife and child were spared but sustained minor injuries. They are presently receiving treatment at the Marigat sub-county hospital
This is not the first time the teacher has been attacked by bandits.
The headteacher reportedly survived a bandit attack in 1978 when he was just 9 years old while he was herding his father’s cattle. Unfortunately during this attack, he was shot on the right eye and the bullet wound left him completely blind.
