Elon Musk made headlines once again, this time for his candid remarks on the war in Ukraine during a forum on his X social media platform.
Addressing US Republican senators, Musk expressed his skepticism about the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin losing the conflict.
Joined by senators including Ron Johnson, JD Vance, and Mike Lee, as well as other prominent figures, Musk echoed Johnson’s sentiment that expecting a Ukrainian victory was unrealistic.
He emphasized the need to reassess the $95 billion bill aimed at providing further assistance to Ukraine, arguing that prolonging the war would not benefit the country.
Musk, who has faced criticism for his views on Ukraine in the past, defended his stance, pointing out the strategic role of his companies, such as SpaceX’s provision of Starlink internet service to Ukraine. He highlighted the potential consequences of seeking Putin’s ouster, cautioning against the possibility of a more hardline successor.
Musk said there was pressure on Putin to see the fight through. “If he were to back off, he would be assassinated,” Musk said.
While Musk’s views diverge from those of President Joe Biden and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who advocate for aiding Ukraine’s defense, his remarks underscore the complexities of the geopolitical landscape surrounding the conflict.
