World champion Faith Kipyegon has earned a nomination for the 25th Laureus World Sports Awards, alongside football world Cup winner Lionel Messi, Tennis champ Novak Djokovic, and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Kipyegon’s exceptional performances last season, including becoming the first woman to win both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, have earned her a spot among world stars vying for the prestigious award.
Lionel Messi, is a contender for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. His nomination came as a result of outstanding achievements, including winning a record eighth Ballon d’Or and leading Inter Miami CF to victory in the Leagues Cup.
The awards ceremony, scheduled for April 22 in Madrid, will see Kipyegon competing against other notable female athletes, including Sha’Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson.
Nominations across various categories have been selected by a panel of 1,300 members of the Laureus Global Media Panel and the International Paralympic Committee.
The Laureus Sport for Good Award, reflecting the inspirational words of Nelson Mandela, will also recognize a program making a positive impact.
