Nairobi — Mystery surrounds the death of a 32-year-old woman whose decomposed body was discovered inside her locked apartment in Lavington, Nairobi, nearly a month after she was reported missing.
Mercy Wachiga Maina was last seen alive in early August outside her residence, where she was reportedly chatting with neighbours and apartment workers.
Concern grew in the following weeks after she could no longer be traced and a foul smell was detected coming from her apartment.
Residents alerted the authorities, prompting police officers to break into the locked premises.
Inside, officers made a grim discovery. Mercy’s decomposed body was found lying on her bed.
Charcoal jiko found inside apartment
Crime scene investigators who examined the apartment recovered a charcoal jiko inside the locked bedroom.
