A 36-year-old teacher at Muruka Senior School in Murang’a County, Timothy Njau, was found dead in a rented house near Kenol town days after he reportedly disappeared from his family home.

According to details shared by his wife, Elizabeth Waweru, Timothy had secretly rented the house on August 15, 2026, where he apparently spent his final days away from his family.

The circumstances surrounding his death have left his family devastated, particularly because of the seemingly normal moments he shared with them shortly before his disappearance.

Timothy Took Family to Church and Thika

Elizabeth said that on August 16, Timothy persuaded the family to attend Mass together.

His insistence on going to church as a family was unusual, she said, although his calm and loving demeanour meant they did not suspect that he could have been making final preparations before his death.

The following day, August 17, Timothy took Elizabeth and their four children to Thika, where they went shopping and had lunch together.

The outing later became one of the family’s final memories of him.

On August 21, after completing his teaching duties at Muruka Senior School, Timothy reportedly made a brief stop at his family home.

He interacted normally with his children before leaving, without indicating that he would not return.

Family Launches Search After Disappearance

Timothy’s family became concerned after he failed to return home and his phone was switched off.

They subsequently launched a search for him as relatives and neighbours tried to establish his whereabouts.

Five days later, on August 26, neighbours living near the rented house reportedly detected a strong foul smell coming from the locked property.

Police were alerted and gained entry into the house, where they found Timothy’s body in an advanced state of decomposition.

The discovery confirmed that he had died several days earlier, around the time he disappeared from his family.

Wife Denies Infidelity Claims

Elizabeth has described Timothy’s death as self-inflicted and questioned why he chose to end his life without leaving a note explaining his reasons.

She said she was particularly troubled by the possibility that he may have acted on allegations that she had been unfaithful.

Elizabeth strongly denied ever cheating on her husband, saying the accusations were based on false rumours.

According to her account, their marriage had experienced growing tension after she secured a demanding job following her graduation in early 2023.

Timothy reportedly became increasingly suspicious of her work schedule and accused her of neglecting the family after getting the job.

Elizabeth Says She Repaid Education Money

Elizabeth said Timothy also demanded that she refund the money he had spent on her education.

In an attempt to ease the marital tension, she took out a loan from a micro-lender in December 2023 and repaid him in full.

Despite the repayment, she said disagreements between the couple continued, with Timothy and people in their community allegedly accusing her of becoming “arrogant” after securing employment and of being unfaithful.

Elizabeth rejected the accusations, saying her demanding work schedule was motivated by the need to supplement their Teachers Service Commission (TSC) salaries and provide for their four children.

During her final visit to Timothy’s body, she reportedly reflected on the allegations that had troubled their marriage.

She lamented that if he had taken his life because he believed she was unfaithful, “what he was fed with was a lie.”

Timothy’s death has left his family and colleagues mourning, while questions remain about the circumstances that preceded his disappearance and death.
