An elderly man identified as Caleb Okumu Ngwena has been arrested alongside an alleged accomplice over claims of kidnapping and sexually abusing children in Sensera, Kiembeni.
The suspect’s arrest has sparked concern, with reports alleging that he was involved in a scheme targeting minors despite his elderly appearance.
According to reports, Ngwena and his alleged accomplice kidnapped two children in Sensera, Kiembeni, on August 25.
The minors were reportedly released later, but they allegedly received threats of death if they disclosed what had happened to them.
Suspect to Appear in Court
Ngwena has since been arrested and is expected to appear in court to face charges including defilement, kidnapping and child trafficking.
The allegations against him are yet to be tested in court, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping and establish whether other individuals were involved.
The case has also raised renewed concerns over the safety of children and the need for parents and guardians to remain vigilant about potential threats to minors.
