A city lawyer, identified as Beatrice Ngethe, who was arrested by DCI officers and held at an undisclosed location since Friday, has finally been released on Ksh100,000 cash bail.
It is alleged that Beatrice Ngethe had connections with the Kenyan fugitive, Kevin Kang’ethe, who recently escaped from the Muthaiga police station.
Kevin Kang’ethe is wanted in the US for the alleged murder of his lover, Maggie Mbitu, at Boston Logan International Airport. An arrest warrant has also been issued in Kenya after Kang’ethe mysteriously escaped from Muthaiga police station. He remains at large to date.
According to reports, the female lawyer was whisked from her apartment in Nairobi by unknown people, suspected to be DCI officers. Her whereabouts remained unknown until Sunday, 72 hours later.
Her resurfacing is believed to have happened after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) demanded her immediate release.
Her dramatic arrest was reminiscent of a scene from an action movie.
Surveillance footage captured the arrival of three unidentified individuals in a Subaru Forester vehicle a few minutes past 6:50 am on Friday.
Subsequently, three officers—two women and a man—were observed entering the premises. Moments later, they emerged escorting Ngethe toward their parked vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle was seen leaving the premises by 7am.
Despite exhaustive efforts by family members, scouring various police stations including Kiambu, Gigiri, Muthaiga, Karen, and the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road, Ngethe remained untraceable for three days.
She later reappeared at Pangani Police Station, hours after LSK raised concerns about her whereabouts.
