Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Florence Bore flagged off the inaugural group of over 500 Kenyan migrant workers on Saturday, February 3, as part of President William Ruto’s commitment to sending workers to five developed countries.
The diverse cohort includes drivers, healthcare providers, security personnel, cleaners, and professionals from the hospitality industry. CS Bore expressed her best wishes for their endeavors and urged them to showcase the resilience, talent, and hard work of Kenyans while abroad, representing the nation.
Emphasizing the government’s dedication to tapping into the international labor market, CS Bore stated that the event underscores the commitment to creating employment opportunities for Kenyans in countries with a high demand for labor.
President Ruto, speaking in Western Province on the same day, reiterated his plans to generate decent job opportunities for Kenyans both domestically and internationally. He revealed discussions with developed nations to secure monthly salaries ranging between Ksh150,000 and Ksh200,000 for Kenyan workers abroad.
The President highlighted the government’s recent advertisement of foreign job opportunities for nurses, with plans to increase the number to 500,000 in the next five years. Ruto further emphasized the commitment to providing local youths with employment opportunities in digital jobs and housing initiatives.
